The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities- Support the development and improvement of physics-based simulation models used for virtual product development and performance evaluation.
- Assist DSM engineers with simulation studies, data analysis, and model validation activities.
- Develop MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape tools that improve modeling efficiency, automation, and repeatability.
- Support automated test execution, post-processing, and reporting workflows used to evaluate machine performance.
- Contribute to the development of virtual performance tests, controls integration activities, and simulation-based engineering processes.
- Collaborate with engineering, controls, and product teams to understand machine systems and help solve real-world engineering challenges.
- Document technical work and communicate results through presentations, reports, and team discussions.

What Skills You Need- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Must be registered as a full-time student at a local college/university
- Graduation date:
Spring 2027 or later - Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
- Available to work 10 - 20 hours/week during the academic year
- Available to work 30 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
- Fundamental understanding of engineering principles, physics, and mathematics.
- Experience through coursework, student projects, research, design teams, internships, or co-ops.
- Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
- Experience using programming or technical computing tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Interest in simulation, controls, automation, or product development.
- Able to commute to the designated work location in Dubuque, Iowa, or work remotely (

- Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and/or Simscape.
- Exposure to control systems, hydraulics, vehicle systems, or mechanical system modeling.
- Experience with object-oriented programming or software development fundamentals.
- Familiarity with data analysis, automation workflows, or test result visualization.
- Experience working on engineering design teams, research projects, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, robotics, or similar hands-on engineering activities.
- Interest in digital engineering, model-based design, and virtual validation processes.
