Senior Process Engineer - Semiconductor Water Treatment / Ultrapure Water

Parsons is seeking a Senior Process Engineer with strong experience supporting advanced manufacturing and semiconductor facilities. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in ultrapure water (UPW), industrial water treatment, and wastewater treatment systems within semiconductor or other high-purity manufacturing environments.

The Senior Process Engineer will lead process engineering activities associated with water and wastewater treatment systems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop, optimize, and implement solutions that meet client, regulatory, operational, and reliability requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of ultrapure water, industrial water treatment, and wastewater treatment systems for semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
  • Support semiconductor fab projects involving UPW production and distribution, wastewater treatment, water reclamation/reuse, and associated process utility systems.
  • Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, process calculations, equipment specifications, data sheets, and design documentation.
  • Perform water and mass balances, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, chemical consumption calculations, and treatment system evaluations.
  • Develop and evaluate treatment processes utilizing technologies such as reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration (UF), ion exchange, electrode ionization (EDI), demineralization, filtration, chemical treatment, and polishing systems.
  • Establish process design criteria, water quality requirements, operating parameters, and equipment requirements for water treatment systems.
  • Evaluate vendor treatment technologies, equipment selections, technical proposals, and supplier submittals.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil/structural, and manufacturing teams to integrate treatment systems into overall facility design.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and project teams to resolve technical issues and maintain alignment with project requirements.
  • Perform process troubleshooting, system performance evaluations, and technical assessments for existing and proposed treatment systems.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable industry standards, environmental requirements, safety requirements, and client specifications.
  • Support commissioning, startup, system optimization, and operational readiness activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant process engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in industrial water and/or wastewater treatment process design.
  • Demonstrated experience with ultrapure water (UPW) or high-purity water systems.
  • Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies such as:
    • Reverse osmosis (RO)
    • Ultrafiltration (UF)
    • Ion exchange
    • Electrodeionization (EDI)
    • Demineralization
    • Filtration and polishing systems
    • Chemical treatment systems
    • Wastewater treatment and water reuse systems
  • Strong understanding of water chemistry, treatment process selection, water quality requirements, and system performance.

    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Water and mass balances
    • Process calculations
    • Equipment and system specifications
    • Process data sheets and design documentation
  • Ability to evaluate and specify water treatment equipment and vendor packages.
  • Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on-site in Boise, Idaho, or relocate as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with water treatment systems supporting semiconductor fabs, microelectronics, or other advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with large-scale UPW systems, wastewater treatment systems, and water reclamation/reuse applications.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor fab expansions, retrofits, or greenfield projects.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor facility process utilities…
