Hydraulic Modeler – Water Resources
This role focuses on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to support stormwater, drainage, floodplain, and watershed analyses for infrastructure, transportation, and water resources projects. You will develop and run models using leading industry tools, analyze system performance under various scenarios, and prepare technical documentation that supports design decisions and regulatory submissions. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement within a large, well-established organization in the water resources space, with strong long-term benefits once you transition to permanent status.
Responsibilities- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to support stormwater, drainage, floodplain, and watershed analyses.
- Develop, calibrate, and run models using tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), SWMM, or Info Works ICM to evaluate system behavior.
- Analyze rainfall–runoff relationships, hydraulic capacity, flood impacts, and overall system performance under a variety of design and regulatory scenarios.
- Prepare clear and accurate technical calculations, figures, exhibits, and written reports to support engineering design packages and regulatory submissions.
- Support planning, design, and permitting efforts for infrastructure, transportation, and water resources projects by providing modeling insights and recommendations.
- Coordinate closely with engineers, planners, and multidisciplinary project teams to integrate modeling results into practical and constructible designs.
- Assist with coordination and communication with local, state, and federal agencies, including responding to technical comments and information requests.
- Maintain organized model files, input data, and documentation in accordance with project requirements and QA/QC standards.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and related civil design tools to support drainage, paving, grading, and stormwater design as needed.
- Apply knowledge of water regulations and standards to ensure modeling and design work aligns with applicable guidelines and permitting requirements.
- 4+ years of experience performing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for drainage, stormwater, floodplain, or watershed studies.
- BS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related science discipline.
- Proficiency with industry-standard modeling tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), SWMM, Info Works ICM, or similar software.
- Strong ability to analyze rainfall/runoff, flood impacts, and hydraulic capacity and translate findings into actionable technical calculations and reports.
- Experience supporting stormwater, drainage, and water resources design through modeling and analysis.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal water regulations relevant to stormwater, drainage, and floodplain management.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, planners, and agency stakeholders and to communicate technical information clearly.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design, including drainage, paving, and grading.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Solid understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and civil design principles as they apply to water resources projects.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Info Works ICM or similar advanced hydraulic modeling platforms.
- Experience using ArcGIS or similar GIS tools to support watershed and floodplain analyses.
- Engineering Intern (EIT) certification or similar professional credential.
- Interest in building a long-term career within a large, well-known organization in the water resources sector.
This position is based in a hybrid work environment, with three days per week in the office and the remaining time available for remote work, depending on project needs. You will work within a large organization of more than 20,000 people that is well recognized in the water resources space, offering exposure to complex infrastructure and transportation projects and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
The role involves extensive use of modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Info Works ICM, and design tools like AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with GIS…
