This role oversees the delivery of complex datacenter power infrastructure projects across the Americas region, with a focus on utility-related construction and maintenance of substations, transmission lines, and associated power systems. The Construction Project Manager / Program Manager coordinates end-to-end project delivery—from pre-programming and design development through construction and turnover to operations—ensuring that scope, schedule, and budget are consistently met. The position can be performed remotely, with a preference for candidates based in Iowa or Minnesota, and includes periodic travel to California to support datacenter power infrastructure initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and deliver industry-leading datacenter power infrastructure, including the development of new technology and advanced concepts from pre-programming through design development, construction, and turnover to operations.
  • Serve as the primary utility point of contact for design and construction activities, coordinating weekly design and construction meetings, routing approvals, managing project documentation, and providing weekly scope and schedule reports.
  • Ensure cross-functional scope alignment by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, tracking funding and purchase orders, building detailed budgets and estimates, and working with the internal team to manage risks and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Own and maintain the Microsoft Project schedule by defining the critical path and predecessors, updating progress regularly, verifying equipment delivery dates, and issuing weekly schedule and risk reports with proposed mitigations.
  • Track and report all major power utility milestones, including contracting, permitting, design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and readiness for service.
  • Coordinate with multiple power utility and provider teams of engineers and designers to deliver projects aligned with defined scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Lead and guide teams of engineers and construction project managers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures related to large datacenter environments.
  • Apply strong project management practices to utility construction and maintenance projects involving substations, transmission lines, and natural gas infrastructure.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with utility providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders, providing regular updates, documentation, and reports on project status and risks.
  • Maintain a methodical, detail-oriented approach and uphold high standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all aspects of project delivery.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or 5+ years of experience in substation design and/or delivery.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in consulting engineering or construction of substations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a lead engineer, design manager, or project manager for transmission or substation projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in datacenter engineering or construction.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in utility construction and maintenance of substations, transmission lines, and natural gas infrastructure.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams.
  • High level of proficiency in transmission and substation design and construction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a growth mindset.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams of engineers and construction project managers in complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to meet customer and government security screening requirements, including passing a cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
