Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Manager - JLL What this job involves:

The HSSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs at a life sciences manufacturing facility as part of JLL’s integrated facilities management services. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of safety excellence and environmental stewardship. The EHS Manager partners with the client’s operations, quality, and facility management teams, as well as JLL’s account leadership, to minimize risk, prevent incidents, and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance across the managed facility.

What

your day-to-day will look like:
  • Develop and maintain EHS programs compliant with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and life sciences-specific regulations including GMP and biosafety standards

  • Manage all environmental permits (air quality, wastewater, hazardous waste, chemical storage) and conduct compliance audits to identify and resolve gaps

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections

  • Design and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs for new hires, job-specific safety, and annual refreshers for JLL and client personnel

  • Oversee critical safety programs including hazard communication, SDS management, LOTO, confined space entry, and emergency response planning

  • Implement exposure monitoring and control programs for chemical, biological, and physical hazards, including respiratory protection and medical surveillance

  • Manage waste programs (hazardous and non-hazardous), air emissions, wastewater discharge, and pollution prevention initiatives aligned with sustainability goals

  • Conduct process hazard analyses, lead behavioral-based safety observations, and analyze EHS metrics to drive continuous improvement

  • Provide EHS technical expertise for capital projects, benchmark performance against industry standards, and support business development activities

  • Serve as primary EHS subject matter expert for the JLL account, prepare performance reports for client and account leadership, and collaborate with JLL’s corporate EHS team to leverage best practices

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related technical field

  • 4+ years of progressive EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or related life sciences manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations (particularly 29 CFR 1910 General Industry standards), EPA regulations, and FDA GMP requirements.

  • Proven track record of implementing and maintaining effective EHS management systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in outsourced facilities management, contract services, or client-facing roles

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems. Knowledge of biosafety containment requirements (BSL-1/BSL-2)

  • Experience with cleanroom operations and contamination control

  • Familiarity with risk-based process safety management

  • Previous experience with JLL or similar integrated facilities management providers

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to conduct facility inspections requiring walking, climbing stairs, and accessing elevated areas. Ability to wear required PPE including respirators, safety glasses, and protective clothing. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Work in manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and temperature variations.

Working Conditions:

This position is based at the client’s life sciences manufacturing facility with approximately 80% time on the production floor and 20% in office settings.
