Job Duties and
Preferred Qualifications:
The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire an Engineer II/III within the Public Utilities Department. This position will be responsible a variety of engineering duties and project management to support operations and the maintenance of public facilities. In this role, you will be managing the design and construction of capital improvement projects, focusing on water and sanitary sewer systems, pump stations, force mains and water distributions systems.
As an integral team member, you will review construction plans, ensuring adherence to department and city specifications and collaborate closely with engineering consultants.
This position will be filled as an Engineer II or an Engineer III, depending on qualifications.
Duties:
Serve as Project Manager and Engineer-in-Charge for water, sanitary sewer and stormwater projects and ensure timely and on-budget design and construction.
Perform contract administration for design and construction projects.
Conduct field investigations and interpret contract requirements.
Prepare reports and maintain project documentation and records.
Coordinate and administer project work orders, bids, contracts, and invoices.
Perform infrastructure condition assessment and manage water and sewer infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
Coordinate with City Departments, Public Utilities Operations, and Local and State Agencies.
Provide Engineering support for operation and maintenance of Public Utilities infrastructure.
Consistently apply independent decision-making skills.
Work from Home is available after 6-months, in accordance with City and DPU Engineering Work from Home policies.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Engineer II:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience.
Engineer III:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and five (5) years of progressive professional experience.
Special Requirements :
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
