What You'll DoIn this role, you’ll have the opportunity to design complex interstate geometrics and local road projects. Depending on your experience, you may also lead a design team, with both immediate and long‑term growth potential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Roadway Design
:
Take charge of the design and plan preparation for both highway and local road projects. - Quality Assurance
:
Lead internal quality reviews to ensure that plans meet the highest technical standards. - Mentorship
:
Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers, helping them grow professionally. - Proposal Development
:
Assist in preparing and negotiating project fee proposals. - Project Scheduling and Budgeting
:
Prepare design schedules, construction cost estimates, and deliver staged project submittals on time and within budget. - Client Interaction
:
Build and maintain strong client relationships through presentations and regular communication. - Scope and Change Management
:
Recognize scope changes and assist with contract negotiations when necessary. - Team Collaboration
:
Work closely with a talented team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff to successfully execute transportation projects.
Education and Experience:
- BS in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited College or University.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required, or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
- Proficiency in the design, preparation, and delivery of roadway design plans (NCDOT design experience preferred).
Skills & Knowledge:
- Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and NCDOT standards.
- Experience with Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, and AutoCAD.
- Prior experience managing projects, including developing proposals and overseeing project timelines and budgets.
- Background in mentoring or managing teams with the ability to collaborate effectively and independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and team members alike.
