Locations: Chicago, IL | Minneapolis, MN | Denver, CO | Englewood, CO | Pittsburgh, PA

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | 40 hours/week

Work Arrangement: Primarily onsite at nuclear power plant locations, with remote-work flexibility based on project needs

Travel: Periodic travel to vendor offices and project sites may be required

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) to support a portfolio of nuclear power projects involving facility modifications, engineering design, procurement, construction, installation, turnover, and project closeout.

This role will serve as a key technical and project interface between engineering teams, plant stakeholders, construction teams, vendors, contractors, and other project partners. The ideal candidate has 5–15 years of nuclear industry experience and has successfully supported projects through the full project lifecycle—from project definition and planning through installation, turnover, and final closeout

Key Responsibilities Project Definition & Planning
  • Develop project scope statements and coordinate with project sponsors and plant stakeholders.
  • Support budgetary engineering estimates and preliminary project schedules.
  • Participate in plant health committees and project planning activities as needed.
  • Conduct site investigations, field walkdowns, and coordination with construction teams.
  • Serve as a technical interface between the owner, engineering organization, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Support Engineering Change (EC) development, review, processing, and installation coordination.
  • Review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and project teams.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities throughout project execution.
  • Review equipment technical requirements and vendor documentation.
  • Coordinate technical meetings and maintain communication with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Support vendor design reviews and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) as needed.
  • Travel periodically to vendor locations for technical reviews, FAT oversight, and system understanding.
  • Provide onsite field engineering and construction support.
  • Review work orders and incorporate technical comments.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and verify designs in the field.
  • Support construction teams with engineering-related questions and issue resolution.
  • Participate in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), shift turnover meetings, and project pre-job briefings.
  • Review and process Field Change Requests (FCRs).
Project Turnover & Closeout
  • Coordinate mandatory project turnover and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate record drawing updates and vendor technical manual revisions.
  • Support FLOC/MUT/EMUT updates and SGI record drawing markups as needed.
  • Verify procedure and project document revisions.
  • Ensure project actions, documentation, schedules, and deliverables are completed through final closeout.
  • Coordinate project activities across plant stakeholders, engineering disciplines, construction teams, vendors, and contractors.
  • Monitor project safety, schedule, budget, performance, and client relationships.
  • Identify and manage project risks and scope changes.
  • Develop and review project schedules and testing plans.
  • Track and complete assigned project actions.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to engineering staff.
  • Support multidisciplinary nuclear project teams and help develop strong technical and project execution practices.
Required Qualifications
  • ABET-accredited engineering degree
    , preferably in Mechanical Engineering. Chemical or Industrial Engineering backgrounds may also be considered based on relevant experience.
  • 5–15 years of nuclear industry experience.
  • Experience supporting nuclear power, nuclear facilities, industrial facilities, or DOE projects
    .
  • Demonstrated cradle-to-grave project experience
    , including project definition/planning, engineering/design, procurement, construction/installation, turnover, and closeout.
  • At least 6 years of project management, project coordination, or related project execution experience.
