Substation Designer
The Substation Designer plays a key role in delivering high-quality power delivery system designs for large and complex projects. This role requires a deep understanding of industry-standard design practices, codes, and regulations, along with at least three years of experience in physical substation design. You will lead design efforts, ensure technical accuracy and compliance, and collaborate closely with clients and cross-functional teams to meet project goals.
A passion for design excellence, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design process for complex substation projects, ensuring that all design solutions align with client needs, quality standards, and overall project objectives.
- Design physical substation layouts and power delivery systems, applying industry-standard practices, codes, and regulations throughout all phases of the project.
- Prepare and review comprehensive design documentation, including detailed drawings, specifications, and other technical documents to ensure accuracy, compliance, and feasibility.
- Create and maintain project documentation such as scoping documents, design inputs, quality checklists, and project filing systems to support efficient project execution and traceability.
- Oversee scope and quality review processes for assigned projects, ensuring adherence to client specifications and internal quality standards.
- Proactively monitor project progress and identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues or design challenges that arise during the project lifecycle.
- Manage time and resources effectively to meet project deadlines with minimal supervision while handling multiple concurrent projects and stakeholders.
- Collaborate and communicate clearly with clients and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, present design solutions, and incorporate feedback into project deliverables.
- Utilize business and engineering applications, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, to develop, document, and present design work.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and quality assurance practices by applying lessons learned from previous projects.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in physical substation design and power delivery system design.
- In-depth understanding of industry-standard design practices, codes, and regulations relevant to substation and power delivery projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating and reviewing detailed physical substation drawings and layouts.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business and engineering applications used for documentation, analysis, and communication.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully execute large and complex projects from design through completion.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- A 2-year degree in engineering, design, or a related field.
- Some college education in relevant disciplines such as electrical engineering, design, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience preparing and maintaining project documentation, including scoping documents, design inputs, quality checklists, and filing systems.
- Experience overseeing scope and quality review processes for technical projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $55.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
