Job Summary
The Engineering Manager
- Design provides leadership, expertise, and delegates work for design document deliverables for building automation system (BAS), electrical power monitoring system (EPMS), and software integration design projects in hyperscale data center and similar mission critical / technology sectors. This role leads a team of BAS / EPMS engineers, ensuring consistent delivery and quality across multiple MEP design programs by integrating lessons learned and leading the QAQC effort.
This position will work with internal and external MEP/FP trade engineers, equipment representatives, product vendors, and BIM / Revit / AutoCAD production resources.
The Engineering Manager – Design will be self-directed on day-to-day work and receive high level instruction on new projects, tasks or assignments. Will execute and lead teams and projects of complex scope, coordinate activities of other personnel, and serve as a people manager.
This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals / values, and departmental objectives.
Essential Functions
Develop and Execute Building Automation Systems Engineering Solutions (25%)
- Serve as client program lead, project trade lead, and SME for the BAS and EPMS scope for one or more projects and / or programs.
- Develop client standards, basis of design (BOD), perform feasibility studies, and assist clients with building automation roadmaps
- Lead designs for DDC and PLC based BAS and EPMS systems
- Select instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves and other field devices
- Coordinate with equipment, system, and product vendors for building automation interface requirements
- Create and review project book and sheet specifications
- Create and review sequence of operations
- Create and review system diagrams and point / alarm lists
- Work closely with client IT departments for network design, interface details, and security requirements
- Provide direction on engineering production aspects with internal and external Revit / BIM resources
Training / Technical Firm Standards Development / Improvement of Policies and Procedures (30%)
- Develop, maintain, and enforce organizational design standards, templates, and best practices for BAS / EPMS design projects alongside leadership
- Mentor and train staff on technical competencies, software tools, and project workflows
- Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned sessions on completed projects
- Perform QAQC reviews for all project milestones on projects / programs where they are not lead engineer
Construction Related Process, Deliverables and Submissions (15%)
- Lead planning and execution of Construction Administration (CA) phase activities remote and on site
- Lead building automation focused design reviews and page turns
- Participate in internal and external quality control and peer reviews
- Lead internal and external project meeting discussions on engineering scope
- Reporting and Communication (15%)
- Manage project communication, reporting and coordination
- Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Manage personal hours using company tools
- Implement and monitor team objectives to meet set goals.
- Manage departmental or organizational projects aligned with departmental focus.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and serve as the first stop for employee questions.
- Direct, coach and develop team members; conduct performance evaluations and 1:1 meetings.
- Resolve conflicts and promote a collaborative atmosphere.
- Participate in organizational strategy discussions and foster interdepartmental communication.
- Optimize resource management, prioritization and task assignments based on project demands.
- Cultivate cooperation and collective problem-solving.
- Assist with team and departmental hiring and recruiting processes.
Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget
