Position: PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER

Professional Engineer

The Nevada Department of Transportation is hiring for a Professional Engineer located in Sparks, NV. Incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and approving temporary traffic control plans for construction contracts; encroachment permits; and special events and become an American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) certified Traffic Control Supervisor. Incumbent will review and comment on traffic impact studies for developments in District 2;

assist in the determination of required design; and recommend mitigations for access into NDOT right-of-way. Incumbent will perform analysis of intersection control evaluations; road safety audits; corridor studies; and other engineering/planning documents to support the decision-making process for proposed operational and safety improvements on District 2 roadways. Incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and commenting on civil improvement plans for encroachment permits in NDOT right-of-way;

producing plans and specifications for traffic-related district contracts; and working with contractors to administer those contracts. Incumbent will review and respond to customer comments regarding traffic operations in District 2; if modifications are needed, they will coordinate implementation of improvements.

Licensed professional engineers engage in the practice of professional engineering which includes, but is not limited to, professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or responsibility for supervision of construction or operations in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment, and projects wherein the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property is concerned.

Duties and responsibilities require independent control and direction, and the use of initiative, skill and judgment applied to the research or design of professional engineering work. All positions in this series require licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
