VoIP Network Engineer IIJob Description

Maintains the day-to-day network and telecom operations to support the Douglas County School District’s (DCSD) enterprise environment. Includes installation, configuration and maintenance of all network devices and equipment. Provide specialized VoIP and network engineering to support day-to-day operations, installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the district’s voice infrastructure and Unified Communications (UC). This role functions as an integral part of the core Networking Team, ensuring seamless integration, traffic prioritization, and alignment between the voice ecosystem and the underlying wired/wireless LAN/WAN infrastructure.

Assesses network capacity needs (wired and wireless), monitors network performance and troubleshoots problems areas as needed. Creates and maintains documentation related to network configuration, network mapping processes and service records.

Not a remote/work from home position.

Position Specific Information Responsibilities
  • Work with telecom carriers, SIP trunk providers, and hardware vendors to resolve complex voice, data, and circuit-related issues.
  • Monitor, resolve, escape, and close VoIP, telecom, and general network-related work request tickets.
  • Provide network and VoIP engineering to support day-to-day operations; installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the district’s IP telephony, Unified Communications (CUCM/on-prem), and supporting LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Administer and monitor standards for the VoIP network to ensure optimal Call Quality (QoS), bandwidth capacity, reliability, and uptime meet and exceed district demands
  • Provide engineering-related design, call-flow diagrams, network topology maps, proposals, and standards documentation for the voice and network ecosystem.
  • Collaborate closely with the core Networking Team to analyze, design, and implement network changes, ensuring the data infrastructure robustly supports new voice services and construction deployments.
  • Document voice system designs, dial plans, network configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Maintain deep working knowledge of legacy telecommunication systems (TDM/POTS) while driving optimization of the modern VoIP/SIP environment.
Work Experience
  • 2+ years of experience focused on VoIP, Unified Communications, or Telecom/Network Engineering | Not Required
  • 5+ years in IT engineering & operations | Not Required
Skills
  • Ability to install, test, document, and troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks
  • Ability to install, test, document, and troubleshoot WAN connectivity and equipment
  • Able to effectively communicate with the school district community.
  • Collaborative team player, Fluent with Eigrp and Spanning Tree protocols
  • Fluent with supporting and troubleshooting complex wireless environments
  • Has the ability to meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Has the ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision
  • Has the ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Is flexible and has the ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers.
