Senior Mechanical Design Engineer; Nuclear Steam Supply System

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a professional staffing firm and we are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to serve within a Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design organization. This role presents the opportunity to join one of the industry leaders in the development of small modular reactor (SMR) technology and the deployment of next-generation Advanced Light Water Reactors (ALWR) as they advance from design into plant implementation.

$140,000 - $150,000 + full benefits package

Due to Federal DOE regulations, U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident is required

This direct-hire, remote role will perform mechanical engineering assignments on the nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) including system and detailed component design in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable NRC regulatory requirements.

NOTE:

For those living within a 30-mile radius of a current office location (Houston, TX 77024 or Corvallis, OR 97330) an onsite presence of four (4) days/week will be required. Outside of that radius is available for remote work with travel as required for business needs.

• Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with NSSS systems.
• Prepares, checks, and reviews engineering reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documents.
• Ensure design, performance, inspection, and testing requirements are defined.
• Collaborate with a multi-discipline team on very complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions requiring a significant amount of independent judgment.
• Plans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in support of developing licensing scope.
• Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers.
• Serves as a technical lead for the design of NSSS components and systems.
• Act as subcontract technical lead (program manager) for vendor design of NSSS Components and lead team to deliver design, manufacturing, and assembly.
• This includes extensive engagement with design partners and internal stakeholders to ensure NSSS system designs meet client and regulatory requirements.
• Interprets scope and project requirements to develop design alternatives when required.
• Serves as test program sponsor for testing scope related to the individual’s area of expertise.
• Commits to the implementation of quality assurance regulations and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering is required. PE License in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering is preferred. 10+ years of relevant commercial nuclear plant experience is required.

Additional experience in the following areas is desired:

Possess a working knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards and 10

CFR 50 Appendix

B. NSSS Component Design, Inspection, and Testing. Resolving complex & multidisciplinary design issues. Domestic nuclear licensing support experience. Possesses extensive product knowledge of NSSS Components such as, Valves, Control Rod Drive Mechanisms (CRDM’s), Pressurizer Heaters, etc. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields to function on multi-disciplinary teams. Possess strong technical writing skills as well as professional communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required.
