Privately owned, fiercely customer-focused, and driven by our values, we continue to lead industries and transform lives through sound.

Today, Bose Corporation is entering an exciting new era. Across multiple global Business Units and Global Functions, we are shaping the future of audio technology, automotive, luxury, and premium experiences. We invite you to join us in this transformation.

Job Description

Bose is a research company dedicated to developing breakthrough technologies and quality products that enrich people's lives. We created the market for noise cancelling headphones and set a high bar for performance. We also lead innovation in automotive noise cancellation, providing active solutions to take cost and weight out of vehicles.

Bose is looking for a senior hands-on control systems engineer to implement and refine low-latency, real-time algorithms for noise cancellation for both consumer electronics and automotive applications. The candidate will work within multi-disciplinary teams to optimize industry-leading noise reduction control systems and DSP algorithms to create next-generation experiences for our customers.

Consumer electronics and automotive applications present very different challenges and levels of cancellation performance. Our group supports a diverse range of applications, maturing active solutions to address automotive cabin noise (powertrain/drivetrain/road noise/wind noise) as well as high performance ANC in headphones and earbuds.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and test feedback and adaptive feed forward control systems for noise cancelling headphones and automotive applications using rapid prototyping HW
  • Conduct and oversee electroacoustic and vibration measurements and perform analyses of results
  • Brainstorming and evaluation of new narrow band/wideband feed forward/feedback algorithms in collaboration with the larger research community
  • Development and handover of software, unit tests, validation plans and tools to downstream development teams
  • Support legacy noise cancellation algorithms
  • Collaborate with engineering team members across multiple disciplines both upstream in research and downstream in development, application, and concepting
  • Hybrid position in Framingham, MA campus (fixed in-office core days with some remote work). Hands-on applications occasionally requires full time in-office work
  • Up to 10% international and domestic travel to support customer-facing teams, working effectively in a variety of cultures is a must

Qualifications &

Experience:

  • MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Acoustical Engineering with 6+ years industry experience in control systems design or alternatively a PhD degree with 3+ years of industry experience
  • Solid understanding of fundamental classical control system theory, stability analysis, adaptive filtering (FxLMS), and digital filter theory and practice
  • Experience in developing and deploying real-time algorithms to embedded platforms (FPGA experience is desirable) using fundamental DSP methods/techniques
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink for data analysis, simulation and visualization
  • Working understanding of physical acoustics, sensor technologies (microphones and accelerometers), automotive NVH is desirable
  • Experience using various techniques for robust data acquisition
  • Demonstrated capability to solve ill-defined problems with creative and innovative solutions and methods
  • Ability to resiliently adapt to rapidly changing constraints, priorities and requirements, while maintaining the highest performance standards
  • Demonstrated creativity, self-motivation, and strong communication skills
