Department Overview

The coworkers of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations and maintenance, as well as Power Generation operations.

The Team manages over 100,000 circuit miles of electric distribution lines and over 18,000 circuit miles of interconnected transmission lines, and operates and maintains PG&E’s hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for customers. Electric Operations is comprised of approximately 6,500 coworkers.

A critical part of Electric Operations is the integrity and management of our assets through the lens of corrosion control. The Corrosion Control Programs group ensures the safety and reliability of steel transmission assets through programs such as:
Tower Coatings, Cathodic Protection, Arc Fault and Tower Replacement—employing industry standard practices as well as implementing industry leading initiatives.

Position Summary

The Corrosion Specialist in the Electric Transmission(ET) Corrosion Control program is responsible for providing corrosion technical support to the Corrosion Engineers, Construction Managers, Civil Engineers, and other departments maintaining PG&E's electric transmission steel structures. The Corrosion Specialist supports system-wide Tower Coatings, Cathodic Protection (CP), Arc Fault, and system protection. Technical support can include, but is not limited to, overseeing the investigation, installation, and remediation of Cathodic Protection, Atmospheric Corrosion, Coupon Test Stations, Arc Fault, and structure corrosion assessment climbs.

The Corrosion Specialist completes data gathering for the construction and maintenance of cathodic protection systems and other capital investments related to transmission tower corrosion prevention and monitoring. This position also works with and maintains company standards related to corrosion control and coatings for electric transmission steel structures and is involved in the solving of technical problems related to corrosion prevention.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location based on business need.

Bay Area Minimum: $95,000

Bay Area Mid: $119,000

Bay Area Maximum: $143,000

California Minimum: $90,000

California Mid: $113,000

California Maximum: $136,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Acts as the Corrosion Specialist in the execution of ET corrosion control programs.
  • Performs cathodic protection system design reviews, cathodic protection system troubleshooting and repair, and corrosion failure analysis
  • Support other Corrosion Specialists or other lines of business in corrosion related investigations, remediation, and preventative maintenance.
  • Provides consultation on one or more specialized area related to corrosion control and cathodic protection, as well as provides consultation / guidance to the Corrosion Engineers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, and the Electric Transmission organization
  • Monitor installation of cathodic protection systems for adherence to design specifications
  • Support development of curriculum for PG&E’s learning academy
  • Leads the development, review & update of standards and specifications as required.
  • Provides technical advice to prevent corrosion and assure equipment reliability.
  • Ensures that material selection and corrosion management strategies for electric facilities will provide technical integrity during the projected life cycle.
  • Ensures materials are selected in line with relevant Company standards and specifications.
  • Supports field work related to investigations, engineering designs, and construction of corrosion control systems
