What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Intern Year Round - Technical Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform electrical testing of semiconductor wafers and packaged parts in x-ray and gamma-ray environments.
  • Analyze current-voltage relationships for radiation effects in microelectronics.
  • Summarize results and present findings in professional venues.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications

We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q security clearance. Clearance is required to start.

If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Pursuing a electronics engineering degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronics measurement techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation effects in microelectronics.
  • Demonstrated record of publications.

The Advanced Microsystems Radiation Effects and Analysis team develops, integrates, characterizes, and assures the radiation hardness of advanced microsystems technologies for the nation's nuclear deterrence mission. Our research and development focuses on key technology areas of: advanced CMOS; radio-frequency (rf), power, and other analog applications; photonics and optoelectronics; compound semiconductors; non-volatile memories (NVM); micro-electro-mechanical (MEM) sensors and actuators; and heterogeneous integration among these disparate technologies.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
