Position SummarySenior Development Engineer (Full Time, Permanent) – responsible for leading the technical and engineering aspects of thermal power development projects from concept through final investment decisions.
Responsibilities- Lead the technical and engineering work for US‑based thermal development projects.
- Support the Strategy department in evaluating the technical feasibility of new technology.
- Coordinate with internal SMEs and external consultants to ensure engineering deliverables meet business needs and company standards.
- Manage and finalize project layouts and documentation for prioritization.
- Develop and coordinate the technical scope of work, applying internal resources or leading and managing external consultants.
- Support the preparation of technical RFP documents, including technical evaluation of project‑specific engineering and equipment specifications.
- Recommend equipment selection and new concepts to improve performance and optimize costs.
- Assist in planning, estimating, and scheduling project deliverables.
- Facilitate the creation of conceptual project layouts.
- Provide technical inputs to other departments to facilitate project approval, permitting, business case development, construction, and operations.
- Support due diligence on potential acquisition of projects in progress.
- Support the development of project execution and procurement plans.
- Direct multi‑disciplinary teams to complete technical inputs.
- Foster relationships with customers, contractors, and third parties.
- Provide recommendations to the Director of Development Engineering, ensuring alignment with Capital Power’s strategy and maintaining effective relationships with key partners.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations groups to develop capital estimates, risk assessments, and compliance reviews for development projects and acquisitions.
- Ensure cross‑functional accountability and authority practices are strictly followed to achieve efficient deliverables.
- Education:
Completed Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering;
Registered Professional Engineer (PE). Education equivalency may be considered. - Experience:
10+ years in the thermal power generation industry; project management experience through FEED stage or demonstrated management of multi‑disciplinary engineering projects. - Technical:
Familiarity with simple‑cycle vs combined‑cycle projects, repowering, conversions, and brownfield thermal expansion projects; knowledge of technical best practices, environmental permitting, laws, and regulations pertaining to power plant operations and construction; technical coordination experience for gas turbine equipment procurement interfacing with suppliers and contractors. - Software:
Proficiency with power plant performance layout and performance modeling tools.
This hybrid office/work‑from‑home position is located in Phoenix, Arizona or Washington, DC, with occasional travel to facilities or potential development sites.
Benefits- Salary range: $128,000 to $141,000, based on qualifications and experience.
