About the Role

Stalcup & Associates LLC seeks a skilled OSP Engineer. The position requires a working‑level knowledge of fiber network OSP engineering, including design for new fiber projects and public ROW relocation projects. The successful candidate will work with clients, municipalities, and contractors to identify conflicts, design aerial or buried telecommunications networks, and resolve road‑move challenges.

Remote Work Note

This is a remote position; however, the candidate must reside in the area as field visits are required as needed.

Required Skills
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Vendor management experience with OSP construction and engineering firms.
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills; ability to interact with executives and staff.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and effective at multi‑tasking.
  • In‑depth knowledge of fiber optic engineering principles, OSP construction practices, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of OSP project steps from design and permitting to construction, splicing, and optical testing.
  • Working knowledge of right‑of‑way property rights and permit acquisition.
  • Knowledge of OSNs (GPON) network design preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office and Google applications.
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency required.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing daily objectives.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, cell phone, and laptop.
Job Duties
  • Implement fiber network maintenance, site surveys, and relocation projects. Use cost‑effective solutions to maximize reliability.
  • Lead design, implementation, and testing of new fiber builds.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to accomplish required tasks.
  • Lead large‑scale projects, driving productivity through vendor resources.
  • Coordinate project activities with contractors, engineering firms, developers, municipalities, and consultants.
  • Propose solutions backed by engineering and productivity principles.
  • Identify infrastructure vulnerabilities and make timely decisions within financial constraints.
  • Prepare detailed cost analysis, specs, spend forecasts, routing maps, requisitions, and business justifications.
  • Stake OSP, create work orders, prepare field notes, cut sheets, schematics, and acquire permits and private rights‑of‑way.
  • Conduct cost analyses to determine the most efficient placement of communications facilities.
  • Work with DOT and utilities to plan telecom relocation; document existing facilities and design solution plans.
  • Local travel may be required.
Experience
  • 3‑5+ years in fiber‑optic/telecommunications engineering, including road‑move projects.
  • Knowledge of OSP activities: fiber cable design, aerial/pole line, buried, and underground construction.
  • Proven ability to read DOT schematics and identify conflicts.
  • Permitting experience with state and local municipalities.
  • Understanding of city, county, state, and road‑move design processes.
  • A solid and diverse field background.
Education

High school diploma or equivalent and 3‑5+ years of job‑related experience or a degree in a related field. A combination of education and work experience may be accepted.
