About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists review examples, evaluate model responses, and provide structured feedback so AI systems can produce more accurate, clear, and useful results.

In this project, your civil engineering judgment will help assess technical explanations, calculations, diagrams, and problem-solving workflows. Your feedback can improve how AI handles engineering reasoning and safety-sensitive content.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI development
  • Use professional expertise in a remote workflow
  • Evaluate model outputs against detailed quality standards
  • Help improve the accuracy and reliability of technical AI content
The Role

Open Train AI is seeking a Civil Engineering QA Lead to review AI-generated civil engineering content and trainer QA work. You will assess accuracy, reasoning, calculation correctness, unit consistency, safety, clarity, formatting, and adherence to project rubrics.

The role also includes giving precise written feedback, supporting onboarding, maintaining project documentation, and identifying recurring quality issues across remote technical workflows. Project details classify the role as entry level, while the stated qualifications require at least three years of relevant civil engineering, technical review, or related experience.

  • Hourly contractor role
  • Pay of up to $105 per hour
  • Part-time schedule of 20+ hours per week
  • Civil engineering quality leadership for AI training projects
What You'll Do

You will combine civil engineering expertise with structured quality assurance to help trainers and reviewers produce dependable technical work. Clear communication and consistent application of project guidelines will be central to the role.

  • Review civil engineering explanations, calculations, diagrams, and problem-solving workflows for correctness and clarity.
  • Check for missing units, flawed assumptions, unsafe recommendations, standards issues, and instruction-following errors.
  • Give written feedback to trainers and QAs and help align them with project guidelines.
  • Maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
  • Support onboarding and training calls and help improve quality processes over time.
  • Communicate updates clearly in remote team tools and keep quality expectations consistent.
Requirements

Applicants should have a strong civil engineering foundation and be able to evaluate technical work against detailed rubrics. The work requires careful verification of calculations, units, assumptions, loads, safety-critical reasoning, and technical writing.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • Strong English communication skills for technical feedback and team coordination.
  • 3+ years of civil engineering, structural, geotechnical, transportation, construction, or technical review experience.
  • Strong understanding of statics, structural analysis, soil mechanics, foundations, hydraulics, transportation systems, and construction materials.
  • Ability to identify calculation, reasoning, unit, assumption, load, and safety issues.
  • Ability to evaluate technical writing against detailed rubrics.
  • Comfort giving structured written feedback to trainers and QAs.
  • Experience with AI training, rubric-based LLM evaluation, or remote QA workflows is strongly preferred.
Helpful Background

Experience with relevant engineering software or remote technical leadership can help you contribute across different workflows. These skills are helpful background rather than stated core requirements.

  • AutoCAD or Civil 3D
  • Revit, ETABS, SAP
    2000, STAAD.Pro, or SAFE
  • HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS, or QGIS
  • Bluebeam, Excel, MATLAB, or Python
  • Leading remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, engineers, technical writers, or QAs
