Energy Engineer

Location:

This remote position is based in Houston, TX with regional and local travel as needed.

What you will be doing:
  • Support engineering reviews of energy savings calculations for HVAC systems, building automation controls, lighting, motors, and process equipment.
  • Apply established program procedures and technical guidance when evaluating baselines for existing buildings and new construction.
  • Assist with preparation and review of measurement and verification plans and supporting documentation for energy savings verification.
  • Provide factual technical information to contractors and customers regarding program requirements for energy modeling and energy calculations, escalating non-routine questions to senior staff.
  • Support feasibility assessments for new energy efficiency measures and emerging technologies, including research, data collection, calculations, and documentation for pilot studies or potential deemed savings methodologies.
  • Develop and review spreadsheet-based calculations and, with guidance, regression models for new and existing technologies.
  • Conduct on-site energy assessments and analyze commercial and industrial building energy performance to identify potential cost‑effective energy efficiency upgrades.
  • Document site conditions, equipment characteristics, operating assumptions, savings inputs, and recommended next steps in organized project files and client‑ready work products.
  • Communicate with building managers, customers, contractors, and internal team members to gather information and support implementation of energy efficiency upgrades.
  • Coordinate assigned tasks with team members and clients to support program participation, schedules, and deliverable quality.
Travel requirements:

Up to 30% local and regional travel for site visits and client meetings. Mileage reimbursement provided.

What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Energy, Environmental, or Renewable/Sustainable Engineering (or applicants can substitute one year of related experience for one year of education)
  • 2+ years of professional experience in energy efficiency engineering, building systems, utility program, ESCO, facility engineering, and/or related experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check
What we would like you to have (preferred skills):
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, Certified Energy Manager certification, or interest in pursuing a relevant professional credential.
  • Experience analyzing utility interval (AMI) data, regression modeling, and energy savings calculations.
  • Experience with energy modeling tools such as TRACE 700/3D, eQuest, Carrier HAP, Energy Plus, or Open Studio.
  • Knowledge of building energy codes and green building standards, including IECC, LEED, and WELL.
