Principal Environmental Engineer / Hydrogeologist Environmental Investigation & Remediation Remote | United States
A nationally recognized environmental consulting firm seeking a senior-level Environmental Engineer or Hydrogeologist to help lead complex investigation and remediation projects across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, and public-sector clients.
This is an opportunity for an established technical leader who enjoys solving complex environmental challenges, mentoring project teams, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients. The role combines technical leadership, strategic project oversight, client relationship management, and business development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead complex soil, groundwater, and environmental remediation projects from strategy development through implementation and closure.
- Serve as a senior technical resource on site investigation, contaminant fate and transport, risk assessment, and remediation programs.
- Advise clients on environmental liabilities, regulatory requirements, site redevelopment strategies, and long-term risk management.
- Provide technical oversight and review of reports, remedial designs, conceptual site models, and groundwater analyses.
- Interface with regulatory agencies to support permitting, compliance, negotiations, and site closure efforts.
- Support litigation and expert consulting matters, including technical evaluations and expert witness activities, where applicable.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level professionals while fostering technical excellence across project teams.
- Contribute to business development efforts through client engagement, proposal development, and identification of new opportunities.
- 15+ years of environmental consulting experience.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Professional Geologist (P.G.) license preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading complex investigation and remediation projects.
- Strong understanding of groundwater systems, remediation technologies, contaminant fate and transport, and environmental regulations.
- Experience with emerging contaminants, including PFAS, is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to serve as a strategic advisor to clients and manage long-term client relationships.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Experience supporting proposals, business development initiatives, and practice growth.
- Leadership role with significant technical influence and autonomy.
