Pay Range
Pay Range $69,500--$82,000

Job Description
The Chemical Safety Manager is a technical and programmatic leader, responsible for oversight of the University’s chemical inventory, manages centralized chemical receiving, and reviews chemical inventory and incoming chemicals for safety. The position assesses chemical hazards and operations, and offers chemical safety assistance, guidance and support to chemical users and assists in the development of technical guidance and other informational materials to promote and enhance chemical laboratory safety and compliance.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Research and Lab Safety within Emergency and Environmental Risk Services, this position supports laboratory chemical safety and facilitates the tracking of all laboratory chemicals at the University. The position assesses chemical hazards and operations, and offers chemical safety assistance, guidance and support to chemical users and assists in the development of technical guidance and other informational materials to promote and enhance chemical laboratory safety and compliance.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, life sciences, bioengineering, chemistry or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in an academic or research environment and/or laboratory safety management experience in an organization with diverse research and development activities, preferred.
- Minimum 2 years
¿ experience with chemical handling and safety, including familiarity with chemical safety data sheet. - Minimum 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of chemicals and related safety and compliance requirements. Functional understanding of research laboratory operations, including chemical, biological, radiological, and physical processes and procedures.
