What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Appointee with expertise in nanofabrication to work with a Department of Energy-funded team to develop the next generation of quantum optical metasurfaces at the intersection of quantum optics and nanophotonics with an emphasis on nanofabrication. The successful candidate will lead the fabrication and process optimization of the quantum metasurfaces using state-of-the-art cleanroom capabilities.
The postdoc will join a team of researchers and postdocs who have been working in this area for over a decade, and who have been performing highly impactful research. In addition, the postdoc will join and interact with the extensive nanophotonics community at CINT and Sandia at large.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Support and develop novel fabrication techniques of quantum and nonlinear metasurfaces including heterogeneous integration of conventional top-down approaches and novel thin materials.
Design, simulate, and/or characterize photonic structures using electromagnetic simulation tools.
Study new physics phenomenon and evaluate new concepts.
Report research results in top-tier journals and professional conferences.
Generate new intellectual property through patent filing.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite.
Qualifications We Require:
PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Optical Science, or other related STEM field conferred within five (5) years prior to employment
Demonstrated experience with nanofabrication, such as electron beam lithography, RIE/ICP and wet etching, metallization, scanning electron micrography, etc.
Experience performing original research, demonstrated through a record of invention, original publications in top-tier journals, and conference papers and presentations
Experience with photonic and electromagnetic simulation software
Experience with experimental characterization including linear and nonlinear optics, and optoelectronic device characterization
Qualifications We Desire:
Familiarity with low temperature measurements
Experience with femtosecond lasers/amplifiers and time-resolved experiments
Design and test of photonics devices (such as wave guides, gratings, modulators, lasers, amplifiers, optical detectors)
Experience in single-photon and quantum-optics measurements.
About Our Team:
Our department supports the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. Through its core facility in Albuquerque and gateway facility in Los Alamos, CINT provides users from academia, industry, and government labs open access to the tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro- and macro world.
CINT is an equal partnership between Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
