Senior Metallurgist / Welding Inspector
Role Type: Contractor
Location: Remote (US-based preferred)
We are looking for experienced Senior Metallurgists and Welding Inspectors to support a project in advanced manufacturing and materials engineering. You’ll apply your expertise to evaluate materials, welds, coatings, and additive manufacturing components for AI training. AI experience is not required.
Scope of WorkEvaluate metallographic microstructures for material acceptance and compliance.
Review heat treatment processes according to AMS 2750, ASTM E112, and related standards.
Assess weld quality through macro etch evaluation and CWI acceptance criteria.
Conduct coating inspections based on NACE/AMPP and SSPC standards.
Review and disposition LPBF additive manufacturing defects.
Provide clear documentation and technical reasoning for accept/reject decisions.
Apply relevant ASTM, AMS, AWS, NADCAP, NACE/AMPP, and SSPC standards.
8+ years of experience evaluating micrographs, welds, coatings, or additive manufacturing components.
Strong knowledge of ASTM, AMS, AWS, NADCAP, NACE/AMPP, and SSPC standards.
Current or previous AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or equivalent.
Experience in metallography, heat treatment, welding inspection, and coating assessment.
Knowledge of additive manufacturing, particularly laser powder bed fusion (LPBF).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and technical decision-making abilities.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
