Safety and Compliance Engineer

LOCATION: Wake Forest, NC / Virginia Beach, VA area (hybrid, with some remote work)

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time / Consulting

TRAVEL: Domestic travel required, approximately one week per month for about 9 months

CLEARANCE: U.S. citizenship required; active security clearance or ability to obtain one

WRC Technologies (the Wireless Research Center) is an independent, private nonprofit that partners with a global network of experts, companies, and government agencies on applied research, engineering, and certified testing in wireless, RF, and spectrum technologies. Our client list runs from federal and defense programs to companies building the next generation of wireless connectivity.

This is a hands-on safety and compliance role: keeping our high-power RF field and range testing safe and properly licensed. You'll set the safety procedures for field operations, manage the safe handling of large test equipment, and work with WRC leadership and clients on the regulatory side, FCC licensing included.

• Develop and enforce safety procedures for high-power RF field and range test operations
• Evaluate field test locations, including land and maritime
• Engineering systems design review and analysis for safety and compliance
• Coordinate the safe transport, handling, and testing of large equipment (up to approximately 1,000 lbs)
• Monitor and document compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards
• Work with WRC leadership and clients to prepare and submit FCC license requests and related regulatory documentation
• Support field-test teams on-site to ensure safety protocols are followed

• 10+ years of relevant safety, compliance, or RF engineering experience, or equivalent
• Background in high-power RF safety for field or range testing
• Experience coordinating the transport and testing of large equipment (up to approximately 1,000 lbs)
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and compliance procedures
• Experience interfacing with regulatory bodies (e.g., FCC licensing)
• U.S. citizenship with an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one
• Ability to travel domestically, approximately one week per month for about 9 months

• Background in AESAs, SDRs, communications, unmanned platforms, or high-power RF systems
• Military project background, or veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

Salary Range: $48-$72 hour
