Indirect Tax Senior – State and Local Tax
HCVT SALT group is based in Southern California and serves a sophisticated client base in a variety of industries. Our team brings substantial expertise in navigating the intricate requirements of state and local taxing authorities, including state income and franchise tax compliance and consulting, indirect tax compliance and consulting, credits and incentives, state tax controversy, and related offerings.
Responsibilities- Be a valuable member on tax engagements and provide state and local indirect tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to a diverse client base in various industries.
- Research state and local indirect tax legislation and assist with drafting client responses and memos.
- Assist with various state and local indirect tax consulting projects including sales & use and excise tax over payment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
- Onboard new sales tax compliance clients to enhance operational efficiencies and streamline workflow.
- Supervise tax accountants and interns on assigned engagements.
- Assist with preparation of client billings and account reconciliations.
- Assist with drafting proposals for new and existing clients.
- 2+ years' experience in state and local indirect tax (sales & use and excise tax)
- Experience with state and local indirect tax planning, tax research, and tax analysis
- Preparation and review experience of state and local indirect tax returns
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Supervisory experience
- One of the following accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- Advanced degree - Masters of Taxation or JD and/or LLM
- Previous large or midsize CPA firm experience
This salary range is specific to the state(s) listed and reflects factors including skill set, education, experience, licensure/certifications, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the range for this position is $95,000 to $130,000.
Work ModelHybrid work model: eligible employees may work both remotely and in the office based on business needs and team coordination. Remote work requires meeting the same performance standards and adherence to policies as in-office work. Not guaranteed and subject to change with notice when possible.
