UChicago Medicine as a Sr Accountant, Grants and Pledges in the Financial Reporting Department. This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity. You may be based outside of the greater Chicagoland area.
The Grants & Funds Accountant provides the daily and monthly accounting & tracking of day-to-day grant and fund activity. Work is adhering to grant & fund GAAP and FASB rules within grant & gift fund contracts; and assists to produce grant and fund reports of awarded grants through their final closing. The ideal candidate will be a meticulous, detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of fund accounting principles and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
EssentialJob Functions
- Record and track all incoming grants, donations, and pledges in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards and organizational policies in partnership with the University
- Maintain detailed records of donor information, grant terms, and restrictions associated with contributions
- Reconcile grant and pledge receivables with general ledger on a regular basis
- In close partnership with the University, collaborate with development teams, program managers, and other departments to facilitate effective grant management and reporting
- Prepare and submit periodic grant vouchers in collaboration with and/or on behalf of program managers
- Support audit activities including preparation of the annual audit work papers, grant and pledge roll‑forwards, support preparation of audited financial statements, audited footnotes and all detail related pledge and grant financial reporting. Support preparation and completion of the annual Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards ("SEFA") audit and the A-133 ("Single Audit").
- Participate in special projects and operating improvement initiatives as requested by leadership
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including tax laws and accounting standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance
- Minimum of 5-6 years relevant experience
- Proven experience in Pledge and Grant accounting and financial reporting for a large organization
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles related to grants and pledges
- Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting tools, use of Excel and other analytical tools
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
- CPA or CFA certification
- Non‑Profit accounting experience
