How You'll Contribute:
As the Accounting & Financial Reporting Manager, you will lead and develop a team of accounting and financial reporting professionals while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records. You will partner closely with Accounting, Financial Reporting, Treasury, IT, Policy Administration, and Actuarial teams to support statutory and GAAP reporting, audits, and process improvements. We're looking for a collaborative leader who values continuous learning, inclusive teamwork, and thoughtful problem-solving, and who is motivated to help strengthen financial controls and reporting excellence across the organization.
What You'll Do:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting and financial reporting professionals, fostering an inclusive, respectful, and high-performing environment
- Oversee the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and general ledger activity
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Support quarterly statutory reporting and GAAP financials for life insurance entities and affiliates
- Coordinate with internal partners to resolve reconciling items related to policy accounting, cash, expenses, claims, and accruals
- Serve as a key liaison for internal and external audits, including state insurance examinations
- Assist with month-end close processes and preparation of financial statements and ad hoc reports
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and internal controls in collaboration with IT and business partners
- Contribute to department and company goals by modeling Equi Trust's core values and supporting cross-functional initiatives
Education and
Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- CPA (preferred)
- FMLI or other relevant professional designation (preferred)
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting
- At least 5 years of experience in life and/or annuity insurance
- Prior experience using accounting systems and financial reporting tools
- Minimum of 2 years of people management experience (preferred)
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems and technologies
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and inclusion
- Ability to adapt to change and contribute positively to continuous improvement efforts
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use hands for fine manipulation
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 20 lbs
- Ability to communicate effectively and view computer screens for prolonged periods
