The Eli and Bessie Cohen Camps, headquartered in Wellesley, MA, is seeking a full-time, year-round Accounting Manager to oversee and support the organization’s financial operations. The Cohen Camps is a family of three Jewish overnight summer camps, Pembroke, Tel Noar, and Tevya, with a rich history dating back to 1935.
The Cohen Camps operates with an annual budget of $10 million, enrolls 1,000 campers, employs 450 seasonal staff, and serves a vibrant alumni community spanning generations. Each summer, we provide transformative camp experiences by creating thriving communities grounded in Jewish values, connection, and belonging. The Accounting Manager will join a collaborative team of 14 highly motivated year-round professionals and play a key role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization.
This position is based in our Cohen Camps year-round office in Wellesley, MA. This is a hybrid position, with flexibility for some remote work; however, the role is primarily in person, as collaboration and relationship-building are central to our work. Camp Pembroke is an all-girls camp located in Pembroke, MA;
Camp Tel Noar is a co-ed camp in Hampstead, NH; and Camp Tevya is a co-ed camp in Brookline, NH.
- Manage daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure proper recording and tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds
- Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare new hire packages and benefits administration as needed
- Track credit card expenditures daily
- Collaborate with other year-round and summer staff
- Monitor budget and forecast to actual performance and investigate and document variances
- Assist in preparing financial reports for senior leadership, program staff, and the Board of Directors
- Track grant and donation revenue, expenses, and reporting requirements
- Ensure compliance with grant agreements, donor restrictions, and applicable regulations
- Support preparation of grant financial reports and reimbursements
- Assist with Form 990 preparation and other regulatory filings
- Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
- Support implementation and documentation of financial procedures
- Working extra hours June through August is part of this position, as the camps are in session and it is much busier than other times of the year
Salary range: $90,000-$97,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Generous PTO, comprehensive health and dental insurance package, 403(b) plan, reduced summer day or overnight camp tuition for eligible children.
RequirementsQualifications
Required:- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or bachelor’s degree in any field with advanced certificate or advanced degree in a related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
- Experience with audits and regulatory reporting
- Proficiency in Quick Books Online and Excel
- Proven organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to organize time, manage diverse activities and meet deadlines
- CPA or CMA or master’s degree in a related field
- Experience with grants management and restricted funds
- Familiarity with the summer camp industry
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting systems and Donor Perfect and Camp Minder databases
