Position Summary

The Finance Manager is a key member of the finance leadership team and provides strategic oversight and operational management to support the organization’s financial health and long-term sustainability. The role supports a diversified revenue portfolio, including grants, contracts, philanthropy, and earned revenue, by strengthening fiscal oversight, compliance, systems integration, and cross-functional collaboration. The Finance Manager works closely with executive leadership and partners with program, development, and operations teams to translate financial data into informed decision-making while ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and funder requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance & Audit Oversight
    • Provide strategic leadership for financial compliance, audit readiness, and internal controls across all revenue streams.
    • Manage funder-specific audits and support the annual organizational audit in partnership with finance leadership, serving as the primary liaison to external auditors and reviewers.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, donor restrictions, grant agreements, and organizational policies.
    • Maintain the Schedule of Federal Expenditures and represent the organization in A-133 audits and federal or state agency reviews.
    • Support internal and external compliance reviews and oversee implementation of audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Grant, Contract & Revenue Management
    • Oversee accounting and reporting for restricted, temporarily restricted, deferred, and earned revenue in accordance with accounting standards and funder requirements.
    • Track grant and contract life cycles from award through closeout, ensuring timely and accurate revenue and expense recognition.
    • Manage accounts receivable and billing for grants, contracts, and other revenue sources, ensuring alignment with award terms, approved budgets, and allowable costs.
    • Partner with program and development teams to align program activity with financial reporting and maximize revenue opportunities.
    • Support RFP and proposal development by preparing and reviewing budgets for bid packages and funding applications.
  • Leadership & Organizational Capacity
    • Build capacity within the team by providing shared leadership coverage, mentorship, and operational support across functional areas as a member of the finance leadership team.
    • Function as the escalation resource for complex or high-priority financial issues.
    • Collaborate with program leadership to assess financial needs, staffing implications, funding strategies, and risk considerations for new and ongoing initiatives.
    • Manage the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of finance policies, procedures, and best practices.
    • Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support transparency, accountability, and funder confidence.
    • Execute organization-wide initiatives, ensuring financial objectives are aligned with programmatic goals to achieve successful outcomes.
