North American Roofing is seeking an experienced Accounting Operations & Job Cost Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations, mentor a growing team, and drive operational excellence. This hands‑on leadership role is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, optimized workflows, and precise job‑cost management across the company’s roofing projects.
Responsibilities- Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, leading and mentoring the team to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient transactional accounting. Perform performance evaluations and support professional development initiatives.
- Assist accounting staff with day‑to‑day operations under direction from VP Finance to promote growth, collaboration, and cross‑training.
- Drive operational excellence by identifying process improvement opportunities, streamlining workflows, and maintaining departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Develop in‑depth knowledge of company systems and databases.
- Direct the full‑cycle month‑end close process, strengthen internal controls, and ensure GAAP compliance to guarantee accurate financial reporting while adhering to the close calendar.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Director of FP&A to monitor budget vs. actual performance, analyze change orders, identify cost drivers, and ensure accurate project gross profit reporting. Create and post job‑cost entries as needed.
- Co‑lead monthly job‑cost reviews with FP&A, Project Management, Procurement, and Estimating teams to refine estimates vs. actual costs. Ensure alignment of cost codes from estimating to procurement (POs) to accounting (invoices).
- Monitor all subcontractor contract balances, ensuring change orders and payments are properly recorded and reconciled with Production CRM/Dynamics Project Management.
- Oversee accounting operations, including job‑cost analysis, construction WIP tracking, and revenue/cost matching to ensure accurate and compliant project financial reporting.
- Build and execute complex SQL / ODBC Excel queries to extract and analyze data from multiple systems efficiently.
- Mentor junior staff and implement a cross‑training program to mitigate operational risk and ensure departmental continuity.
- Provide leadership during system implementations and staff training initiatives.
- Serve as liaison for external auditors, preparing support documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Coordinate corporate and franchise tax preparation support with outside firms and submit required tax payments as directed.
- Maintain compliance with the company’s delegation of authority for payables and expenses.
- Provide financial analysis, reporting, and support for special projects as requested by executive leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting leadership experience, preferably in construction or commercial roofing.
- Strong expertise in month‑end close, construction WIP accounting, and project budget vs. actual analysis.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, analytical, and able to make sound decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial insights to all management levels.
- Team‑oriented with strong interpersonal skills; able to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (SQL and ODBC connectors).
- Experience with SAGE 100 (MAS) and Concur/SAP Expense reporting is a plus.
Local preferred where work is performed in a hybrid, general office environment. Remote work environment will be considered. Occasional lifting to 10 pounds is required. Repetitive finger/hand/forearm motion necessary for completing data entry. Ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads and copy equipment are essential. Talking and listening are required for answering telephones and conversing personally with customers and staff. Manual dexterity required for accessing filing cabinets in various locations.
Light travel may be needed for department meetings if remote.
