Role Overview
This role is focused on mortgage company licensing. The Mortgage Company Licensing Specialist is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of state-level company licenses for mortgage brokers and lenders, including new applications, renewals, amendments, and regulator correspondence. You will work closely with clients, state regulators, and internal compliance professionals to ensure licenses are obtained and maintained accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities Mortgage Company Licensing- Manage multi-state mortgage company licensing from application through approval
- Prepare and file NMLS company applications and amendments (MU1, MU2, MU3, and state-specific forms)
- Handle new licenses, renewals, reinstatements, withdrawals, and conversions
- Coordinate branch licensing where applicable
- Manage surety bond requirements and related filings
- Track and maintain compliance with state-specific licensing requirements and timelines
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date NMLS company records
- Monitor license status and resolve license items and deficiencies
- Correspond directly with state regulators to address questions and requests
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to regulatory inquiries
- Serve as a primary point of contact for company licensing questions
- Clearly communicate licensing requirements, timelines, and next steps to clients
- Coordinate with internal compliance and operations teams to support broader client needs
- Maintain internal licensing trackers and renewal calendars
- Support compliance audits and regulatory exams with licensing documentation
- Assist in refining internal licensing processes, checklists, and procedures
- 2+ years of experience in mortgage company licensing
- Strong working knowledge of NMLS company filings
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client accounts simultaneously
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working at a mortgage compliance firm, licensing vendor, or regulator
- Familiarity with broker vs. lender licensing frameworks
- Experience handling state regulator correspondence and deficiencies
