Job Overview
The Fiscal Analyst supports Muskegon County departments by helping prepare and monitor budgets, analyzing financial data, and ensuring public funds are managed responsibly. This position works closely with department leadership, grants staff, and central accounting to provide accurate financial information that supports informed decision-making and public transparency.
This role is ideal for someone early in their public finance, accounting, or budgeting career who enjoys working with data, collaborating with others, and contributing to the effective delivery of County services.
QualificationsPossess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public or Business Administration, Accounting or Economics;
AND have a minimum of one (1) year full-time work experience in financial, budgetary or economic analysis which includes considerable use of computer spreadsheet applications.
OR
Possess an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public or Business Administration, Accounting or Economics;
AND have a minimum of three (3) years full-time work experience in financial, budgetary or economic analysis which includes considerable use of computer spreadsheet applications.

An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work activity requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
Environmental ConditionsWork is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel within the County may be required. This position may be eligible for hybrid in‑person/remote work arrangements at the discretion of the Department Head.

Evaluation ContentThe selected candidate must take a post‑offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post‑offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position.
When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.
Any applicant is entitled to a review of any determination or action taken by the County regarding the applicant’s employment application. Inquiries should be directed to the County Human Resources Department.
PurposeThe purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
