The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is seeking a dynamic and experienced Grants and Programs Accountant to manage and oversee the finance and accounting functions for a portfolio of governmental grants, sub‑grants, and restricted funds from private sources.
Key Responsibilities- Maintains, updates, and tracks a portfolio and schedule of grants, contracts, restricted funds, and PII (Partner Impact and Innovation) sub‑grants to Food Bank network partners, and ensures relevant information is posted to the general ledger.
- Executes accurate tracking and accounting for government grants (e.g. CFSP, TANF) and restricted private grant funds received and expended.
- Reviews all incoming grants for financial reporting requirements, due dates, etc., and ensures assignment to proper account, department, and grant name for system tracking. Creates and/or maintains SOP to ensure policies and processes are documented and in compliance.
- Monitors and records grant disbursements and provides management with updates on relevant components of grant reporting.
- Advises program management on cost and staffing projections, grant/contract spend‑down, fiscal results, contract terms, and new opportunities.
Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and minimum of three (3) years general ledger accounting experience, preferably in non‑profit environment, required.
- CPA, or CPA candidate highly preferred.
- Grant/fund accounting experience required. Government grant experience such as SNAP, TANF, CSFP highly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices, procedures along with a strong understanding of governmental regulations and reporting requirements.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting and ERP software (e.g., MIP, SAGE, Net Suite, Blackbaud, etc.). Microsoft Dynamics Navision preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and extensive experience using Microsoft Office software, including advanced Excel.
- Ability to organize, coordinate and see projects through to completion, often under tight, time‑sensitive deadlines.
- Solid analytical and technical skills; organized and detailed.
- High degree of coordination and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- The Grants and Programs Accountant role is full‑time with competitive salary and benefits. This position is on‑site and based in Verona but will consider option to work at the Charlottesville branch 2 days per week, not including any work from home days. Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Competitive salary and benefits, including health, dental, vision, employer paid life insurance, STD/LTD, generous paid time off and 401K contribution. Professional development opportunities along with a set number of remote workdays. The hiring range is approximately $89,000 to $100,000 depending upon related credentials and work experience.
