Job Description And Duties

Anticipated Interview Dates:

CalPERS seeks an Accounting Officer (AO), Specialist in the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division, Real Assets Accounting. Under the general supervision of the Financial Accountant II, Supervisor, the incumbent performs professional accounting tasks requiring knowledge of general and investment accounting principles. The AO analyzes, researches, and reconciles accounting activity for the Real Assets Program.

Responsibilities include performing professional accounting tasks for the Real Assets Program including recording, analyzing, and reconciling Real Estate, Infrastructure, and Forestland investment activity (contributions and distributions, payables, receivables, income, realized and unrealized gains/losses, foreign currency transactions, fair market value (FMV), net asset value (NAV), and other general ledger activities) utilizing GAAP and GASB standards. Conduct monthly cash, contribution/distribution, and general ledger reconciliations ensuring AREIS, custodian bank, and CalPERS People Soft are in balance.

Analyze monthly cash activity and post to People Soft. Calculate and reconcile FMV and NAV for Real Estate, Forestland, and Infrastructure portfolios using AREIS and custodian bank reports. Review transaction activities reported through AREIS and by the custodian bank for reasonableness, review trial balances and income statements, and provide supporting reports to validate changes or recommendations. Research, analyze, and resolve reconciling items as needed.

Telework Information:
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Special Requirements and Qualifications

Sponsorship:
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Effective July 1, 2025, CalHR PLP 2025 requires a 3% pay reduction in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits; the salary ranges shown do not reflect this reduction.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required. The SOQ must be titled “Statement of Qualifications,” be typed, numbered responses, list all relevant experience, education, and training, and not exceed one page. It must address:
Describe your experience in reconciling, research, and analysis of accounting transactions affecting general ledger entries in a financial system. The SOQ must be submitted with your application; applications received without an SOQ will not be considered.

Minimum Qualifications:

All MQs listed in the Classification Specification must be clearly demonstrated in your application. If using education to meet MQs, include transcripts. If you have a degree from outside the U.S., provide a US equivalency evaluation (NACES). A valid examination for list eligibility may be required.
