THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION

OF WORK

As a Taxpayer Assistance Technician, you will be responsible for researching and reviewing taxpayer accounts in the Department's systems by utilizing
computer programs such as PATH, BRIDGES and web enabled taxpayer inquiry system to provide appropriate information when answering the taxpayer's inquiry.

This position assists and advises the taxpayer and their representatives in the proper manner of completing tax returns, reports, and other forms as they pertain to the above taxes and programs. You will have the opportunity to verify tax liability, penalty and interest, and explain to the taxpayer and their representatives how these amounts were determined along with the applicable tax laws, rules, regulations and policies involved.

Additional duties include:

  • Receive incoming calls or written correspondence from taxpayers or their representatives and respond either verbally or in writing regarding the application of tax laws, rules, regulations, policies or procedures.
  • Request necessary documentation from taxpayers or representatives and prepare proper departmental forms in order to correctly adjust a taxpayer's account.
  • Train tax season personnel in the areas of personal income tax, property tax and rent rebate program.
  • Deliver presentations upon request from the private sector on the application and interpretations of state tax laws, rules, regulations and policies.
  • Prepare reports concerning the effectiveness of taxpayer services and make recommendations on how to improve upon them in the future.
  • Apply Lean thinking in day-to-day tasks, demonstrating a commitment to meeting expectations of the bureau and being mindful of internal controls and risk management when changes are made to a process.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad hoc. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in reviewing tax documents and making taxpayer liability decision and applying tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; or
  • Three years of experience in the collection of taxes; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
