The Global Mobility Tax Specialist serves as the subject matter expert for individual tax matters related to global assignments. This role provides technical guidance on expatriate tax compliance, tax equalization, and cross-border mobility planning while partnering closely with HR, payroll, finance, and external vendors. The ideal candidate brings deep mobility tax expertise, strong consultative skills, and the ability to navigate complex international tax environments with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary mobility tax subject matter expert for global assignments and cross-border remote work inquiries.
- Provide guidance on assignment cost estimates, tax equalization calculations, hypothetical tax, and social tax adjustments.
- Oversee mobility tax processes including shadow payroll, secondment agreements, social security agreements, and gross-up calculations.
- Review and monitor changes in U.S. and international individual tax laws; assess cost impact and recommend policy or process updates.
- Manage escalations related to mobility tax matters and provide clear, actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
- Partner with finance, payroll, compensation, corporate tax, equity, and external vendors to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
- Review vendor tax models, hypothetical tax tables, invoices, and out-of-scope fees; approve company tax positions annually.
- Support and enhance mobility technology platforms for cost estimates, assignment packages, and orientation materials.
- Conduct benchmarking of mobility tax policies and deliver stakeholder communications and training sessions.
- Minimum 5 years of global mobility tax experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of expatriate tax concepts and cross-border assignment taxation.
- General understanding of international individual tax regimes and ability to independently research and interpret tax systems.
- Experience applying and communicating international assignment tax policies and computations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under time constraints.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and consultative skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in complex situations.
- CPA designation.
- In-house mobility tax experience within a multinational corporation.
- Public accounting experience (Big
4). - Experience advising on mobility tax matters in the U.S., Switzerland, UK, France, Singapore, Brazil, Australia, and India.
- Experience with mobility software platforms, including Assignment Pro (Equus).
- Experience with in the consumer goods or food industry.
