Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Department Finance Manager and CAO, the incumbent provides advanced contract and grant financial, administrative, and analytical support on all research projects. Responsibilities include identifying sources of research funding, preparing research grant applications, budget development, managing post‑award processes, and supervising research administrators. The position serves as an expert administrative and analytical resource for the Department in both pre‑ and post‑award processes.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory and/or leadership experience to train, assign work, motivate, and evaluate staff.
- Thorough knowledge of contracts and grants transactions and applicable financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Analytical skills to independently and tactfully coordinate and complete complex financial analysis, customized reports, and projects requiring interactions with many individuals in a matrix organizational structure.
- Ability to work with minimal direction and to take the initiative to follow up on projects.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and private grant budgeting, financial reporting, and policies regarding use of grant funds.
- Skill in managing multiple funds involving different accounting procedures, including analysis, reconciliation, projection, fiscal closing, and grant preparation.
- Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and University accounting policies and procedures; knowledge of cost allocation methods; demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
- Experience in budget preparation, analysis and forecasting with ability to control complex budgets and recognize potential problems.
- Skill to analyze financial data and computer reports in order to draw meaningful conclusions.
- Problem‑solving skills to expedite jobs, work with changing priorities and a demanding workload, and use independent judgment to make logical decisions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, work independently without supervision, and commit to excellence.
- Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, ability to multi‑task effectively in a high‑volume environment, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) and/or Research Administration Certification (RACS).
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting/Finance.
- Experience building and negotiating industry trial budgets and contracts.
- Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of federal and non‑federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
- Knowledge of Department and School of Medicine accounting software and other software for spreadsheets, word processing, database management, Cayuse, Aggie Enterprise, Aggie Expense, UC Path, OnCore, Cognos, Outlook, and other Windows‑based applications.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures on personnel and payroll, purchasing, travel, entertainment, transfers of expenses, invoicing and collections.
