POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Manager - Corporate Finance and Accounting will implement the infrastructure and systems needed to support MCD’s strategic objectives. The Senior Manager is accountable for the oversight and management of corporate finance and accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate insurance, annual audit, budget, treasury, and physical infrastructure. As a member of the senior financial management team, the Senior Manager will be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives, working closely with the Controller and senior management team in developing MCD’s financial strategic goals.

The Senior Manager will continually evaluate best industry practices to align internal systems with future needs and budget realities, and will serve as second in command to the Controller, stepping into the Controller role in their absence. This position will have direct management responsibility for a staff of 2-3, including at minimum the Manager of Corporate Finance and Accounting and the Manager of Payroll.

LOCATION

AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The primary location of this position is remote/home office based. Job responsibilities may require periodic meetings, conferences, and training that require a staff member to be in various public places, e.g., hotel conference rooms. Employees may opt for a hybrid arrangement if they are within commuting distance to our Hallowell, ME office.

PAY GRADE

Grade 7 (Maine pay range: $97,000-$116,000). Salary will vary by geographical location.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead all finance operations, including financial reporting, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate insurance, annual audit, budgeting, treasury, month‑ and year‑end close, and physical infrastructure. Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements, manage ledger and reporting systems, and oversee fund accounting per nonprofit GAAP (FASB ASC 958).
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and safeguards for revenue receipt, cost allocation, and project budgeting and actual expenditures.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to develop departmental policies, procedures, and protocols, continually improving quality and ensuring compliance with industry best practice and government regulations, including USG grant requirements such as 2 CFR 200.
  • Prepare and present accurate financial reports and analyses to the Controller and MCD leadership, communicating financial status and trends on a timely basis. Support the Controller in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, compare actual results to financial plans, identify variances, and implement corrective actions. Prepare the Finance and Accounting departmental budget for inclusion in the corporate budget.
  • Coordinate and lead audit activities, preparing schedules and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls. Lead preparation for single audit where applicable under 2 CFR 200.
  • Supervise finance staff, providing guidance, skill development, and performance assessments. Delegate tasks to achieve departmental goals and foster a supportive, high‑performance culture.
  • Train project leaders on finance and accounting procedures to ensure alignment with project operations.
