Summary

Within the framework of The Settlement Home for Children's mission, the Finance Director will assume a strategic role in the overall management of the organization. The Finance Director will have the primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the organization and will provide supervision and support to the accounting department.

Essential Job Functions & Expectations Financial Management & Compliance
  • Responsible for financial management, administration, and compliance in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, audit requirements, and best practices for nonprofit accountability
  • Serves as primary liaison for Executive Team fiscal reporting and facilitation
  • Manages cash flow and forecasting; provides direction and oversight for all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting
  • Maintains relationships with key organization partners, including auditors, banking institutions, and insurance and investment partners
  • Reviews, manages, and establishes as needed new internal systems and controls, operations, processes, and financial procedures to ensure the integrity of financial information and reporting
  • Serves as a business partner to the Executive Director on the organization's financial, budgeting, and administrative processes
  • Prepares month‑end and year‑end financial statements
  • Responsible for ensuring all tax filings are completed and filed timely
Accounting & Reporting
  • Oversees the work of the Accounting Coordinator to ensure all invoices, reimbursements, and weekend money receipts are processed and tracked timely and accurately
  • Owns the full Accounts Receivable and Grant Revenue cycle, including accurately recording donor pledges, timely execution of grant drawdowns, AR deposits, and the reconciliation of restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure accurate revenue recognition and optimal cash flow
  • Collaborates with the Development Director to ensure financial integrity and accurate reporting through regular gift‑to‑finance reconciliation
  • Generates monthly financial reports, including departmental income statement and income statement with budget comparison for distribution to the Board of Directors, Club, the Executive Director, and Program Directors
  • Generates monthly reports of program fees compared to budget and distributes to the Program Directors
  • Generates monthly accounts receivable report and prepares discrepancy report Manages the monthly close process and reconciles general ledger asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts monthly
Grants, Audit & Budget
  • Collects information for third‑party to complete the Texas Department of Family Protective Services (TDFPS) cost reports for all programs, attends the annual training for cost reports, and maintains files for audit
