Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role for a Real Estate Assistant Controller located in Wynnewood, PA. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the VP of Finance to oversee accounting and financial reporting for the company’s multifamily investment portfolio, investment funds and corporate entities. The Assistant Controller will manage daily accounting and financial operations, assist in preparing financial statements and oversee property-level financial reporting processes.
Responsibilities also includes supporting audits, ensuring regulatory compliance, and working closely with the accounting team to uphold financial integrity and accuracy.
Oversee full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of multifamily properties and the property management company’s corporate books including the following:
- Managing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Reviewing monthly work papers and bank reconciliations prepared by the accounting team.
- Performing allocations of shared costs paid for by the management company.
- Reviewing, reconciling, and allocating monthly credit card bills.
- Monitoring real estate taxes, insurance, and replacement reserves.
- Coordinating with Human Resources to facilitate the review, payment and recording of payroll.
- Reviewing vendor payments to ensure accuracy/proper authorization.
- Assisting with property and fund level distributions.
- Assisting with the preparation of quarterly property valuations.
- Drafting or performing initial reviews of all property-level audited financial statements.
- Manage, mentor and develop AP and accounting staff to help foster a high-performing collaborative team.
- Assist in implementing internal controls, process improvements, and new accounting technologies.
- Provide assistance and insight to the Asset Management and Property Management teams.
- BS/BA Degree in accounting or finance.
- 5 years of progressive real estate accounting experience.
- Public accounting experience preferred and fund accounting experience is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Yardi.
- Proven experience in Real Estate operations and familiarity with property management or real estate investment processes.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
This position is a full-time position and will require the majority of time in office with flexibility to work from home when coordinated with supervisor and travel schedules.
