Sr. Controller

Position Overview

The Senior Controller will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls across a multi‑entity environment. This role will play a key leadership position in driving process improvements, consolidations, and financial strategy while supporting a growing organization.

This role blends technical accounting expertise, leadership, and FP&A exposure

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, reporting, and financial close processes
• Lead consolidations and financial reporting across multiple entities
• Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Oversee and support annual audits and ensure audit readiness
• Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision‑making
• Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and operational efficiencies
• Maintain compliance with nonprofit and regulatory reporting requirements
• Oversee tax‑related filings, including Form 990 and other regulatory reporting

• Lead and mentor a team of accounting leaders and team members
• Provide guidance, coaching, and performance management across the team
• Foster a collaborative, high‑performing remote work environment
• Partner cross‑functionally with finance leadership and operational stakeholders

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 8+ years of accounting/finance experience with progressive leadership responsibility
• Prior experience in nonprofit and/or education sector (required)
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
• Demonstrated experience with consolidations, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
• Experience leading and managing remote or distributed teams
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Advanced Excel skills

• CPA designation
• Experience with ERP implementations or system upgrades
• Familiarity with school finance or education‑related funding models
