Private Markets Investment Strategist – Chief Investment Office
The Chief Investment Office (CIO) provides thought leadership, investment guidance, and portfolio strategy across Merrill and Bank of America Private Bank. This role is a Private Markets Investment Strategist on the CIO’s Portfolio Strategy Team.
Responsibilities- Contribute to the CIO’s investment research process by developing tactical views and actionable insights across private markets asset classes (private equity, private credit, private real estate, infrastructure, and other real assets).
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, including performance analytics, market trends, capital formation dynamics, valuation and dispersion analysis, and identifying key drivers of opportunity sets.
- Assess private markets asset classes relative to other alternative and traditional asset classes, supporting the CIO’s cross‑asset class views.
- Author high‑quality thought leadership content for Merrill and Private Bank channels—asset class updates, timely market commentary, primers and deep dives, portfolio construction guidance, and CIO flagship publications.
- Partner with internal editorial and communications teams to ensure content aligns with CIO standards and meets regulatory and brand guidelines.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert representing the CIO in client, advisor, and internal investment team interactions (presentations, virtual meetings, conference calls).
- Support field‑facing teams by providing education on private markets, CIO guidance, and portfolio positioning.
- Collaborate with CIO strategists across Equities, Fixed Income, and Macro to integrate private markets views into multi‑asset portfolio guidance.
- Work closely with the CIO’s Private Markets Due Diligence Team, leveraging bottom‑up insights from alternative investment managers and incorporating manager‑level trends into top‑down research.
- Partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Distribution teams to support private markets initiatives across the organization.
- 8+ years of experience in alternatives with a strong emphasis on private markets (private equity, private credit, private real estate, infrastructure).
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or CAIA strongly preferred.
- Series 7 and Series 66 (or Series 63 & 65) required, or ability to obtain within 120 days.
- Background as an investment strategist, research analyst, allocator, due diligence professional, or manager selection analyst.
- Demonstrated expertise in investment research, including quantitative analytics, industry trend evaluation, and development of data‑driven insights.
- Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to translate complex research into clear, actionable guidance.
- Strong presentation skills and comfort engaging with sophisticated clients, advisors, and internal stakeholders.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
- Strong relationship‑building skills and ability to work effectively across functional areas.

CompensationAnnual salary range: $121,500 – $212,000 (based on experience, education and skill set). Eligible for annual discretionary incentive plan.
