Overview

NN Re, the internal reinsurer of NN Group, is recruiting for the position of Head of Compliance. The Head of Compliance is the only member of the compliance function at NN Re. NN Re is a licensed Dutch reinsurance entity supervised by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). We help NN Group insurance and pension fund entities protect their balance sheet by reinsuring and hedging risks.

Our reinsurance and capital market professionals deliver tailor‑made solutions that meet the specific needs of our internal clients for a variety of risks and exposures such as mortality, longevity, disability, property and casualty, from simple reinsurance structures to complex operations like, for example, hedging market risks for variable annuities products using derivatives.

Responsibilities
  • Set, implement and monitor the compliance strategy and local compliance policies and procedures.
  • Implement Group policies and procedures where relevant.
  • Develop and execute the annual Compliance Operational Plan.
  • Advise the MB of NN Re on compliance related matters and new regulatory developments and support the implementation of the strategy of NN Re from a compliance perspective based on your own expertise and leveraging the compliance community fil the role of the Solvency2 key function holder, the local compliance officer.
  • Provide relevant second‑line opinions on various matters, organise and participate in risk assessments and proactively identify compliance related risks in NN Re.
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert for all compliance related topics.
  • Acquire proactively expertise in new regulation and emerging compliance topics relevant to NN Re, leverage the expertise of and cooperate with the compliance community at NN where needed, keeping the interest of the NN group as a whole at heart.
  • Act as the primary contact for regulators (DNB and AFM) and external auditors for compliance matters.
  • Support a strong risk culture by promoting a strong compliance and integrity culture across the organisation.
  • Ensure that NN Re staff receive compliance training programmes.
  • Prepare periodic compliance reports for the MB of NN Re and relevant committees.
  • Prepare periodic input for Group Compliance reports (ERM).
Qualifications
  • Strong expert knowledge of the most relevant compliance matters of NN Re and high integrity standards.
  • Can and enjoys working independently; it is important that you are able to prioritise, make decisions, and reach out to the integrated compliance function on your own, which is required because you are the only representative of the compliance function within NN Re.
  • Critical and pragmatic mindset; you identify opportunities to implement changes and improvements, and recognise the impact of decisions on other parts of the organisation.
  • Ability to collaborate and create support for your initiatives at different levels of the organisation including the MB and Group functions. This will require persistency, personal style flexibility and the ability to respond to feedback.
  • Understanding of the challenges of a business unit, and ability to adjust approaches to the circumstances of NN Re: its size, risk profile and business model.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all management levels, including the MB.
  • Business fluency in English is a requirement;
    Dutch is preferred due to interaction with regulators.
  • Experience working in an international environment.
  • Understand the strategy of the organisation you work for, and able to support the implementation of the strategy from a compliance perspective.
  • Experience interacting with regulators and external auditors.
  • Several years of relevant work experience in compliance or a similar function (e.g. audit or operational risk management), including experience interacting with regulators.
