Senior Compliance Officer – Canada / MSB
EMCD is a global Web3 company building a complete crypto ecosystem:
Mining Pool, Wallet, Coinhold (Earn), Exchange and Cards.
We operate across multiple jurisdictions and continue expanding our presence in the European market under the MiCA regulatory framework.
We are looking for a Senior Compliance Officer who will own and drive the Canadian compliance agenda, ensuring our MSB operations and crypto‑related activities are fully aligned with FINTRAC requirements, PCMLTFA/PCMLTFR, and AML/CFT obligations.
Responsibilities- Ensure the company's activities in Canada comply with PCMLTFA / PCMLTFR
, FINTRAC requirements
, AML/CFT standards, and applicable regulation for Money Services Businesses (MSB / Foreign MSB). - Maintain and update the company's MSB registration, including:
- timely updates of registration data,
- business activities,
- contact persons,
- operational information.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a FINTRAC‑compliant AML/CFT program, including:
- Compliance Officer role support,
- written policies and procedures,
- business‑wide risk assessment,
- ongoing compliance training,
- effectiveness reviews,
- recordkeeping,
- regulatory reporting,
- client identification and verification controls.
- Support and oversee KYC/KYB processes, including:
- client identification and verification,
- beneficial ownership,
- third‑party determination,
- purpose and nature of business relationship,
- ongoing monitoring and EDD.
- Conduct and regularly update business‑wide risk assessments across:
- products and services,
- customer segments,
- geographies,
- delivery channels,
- transaction patterns,
- crypto / virtual currency exposure,
- sanctions, ML/TF, and fraud risks.
- Monitor transactions and customer activity from an AML/CFT perspective, including:
- transaction monitoring,
- alert review,
- escalation and investigation,documentation and decision‑making on suspicious activity.
- Prepare, review, and submit FINTRAC reports, including:
- Suspicious Transaction Reports (STR),
- Large Cash Transaction Reports,
- Large Virtual Currency Transaction Reports,
- Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (if applicable),
- Terrorist Property Reports / sanctions‑related reporting (if applicable).
- Collaborate with internal teams (Product, Legal, Operations, Finance, Support) and external advisors.
- 5+ years of experience in compliance / AML / financial crime / regulatory compliance / risk
. - Hands‑on experience in MSB, crypto, fintech, payments, banking, or other regulated financial environments.
- Strong knowledge of:
- FINTRAC requirements
, - PCMLTFA / PCMLTFR
, - Canadian AML/CFT framework.
- FINTRAC requirements
- Proven experience building or maintaining an AML compliance program for a regulated entity.
- Practical expertise in:
- KYC/KYB,
- beneficial ownership,
- third‑party determination,
- sanctions screening,
- PEP / HIO screening,
- adverse media checks,
- transaction monitoring,
- suspicious activity escalation,
- EDD,
- recordkeeping,
- regulatory reporting.
- Understanding of virtual currency / crypto MSB specifics, including:
- exchange and transfer flows,
- fiat on/off‑ramps,
- wallets,
- blockchain transactions,
- custody‑adjacent risks.
- Experience preparing:
- STRs,
- internal investigation memos,
- case files.
- Ability to develop:
- policies,
- procedures,
- risk assessments,
- training materials,
- compliance reports.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and cross‑functional teams.
- Fluent English — including drafting policies, reports, and regulatory responses.
- High level of regulatory scrutiny from FINTRAC, particularly towards the MSB and crypto sector.
- The key challenge is to ensure that KYC/KYB, transaction monitoring, escalation, STR logic, recordkeeping, and risk assessment are fully embedded in day‑to‑day operations — not just formally documented.
- The role requires analyzing not only the client, but also the nature of crypto transactions, including: wallets, blockchain exposure, source and destination of funds, high‑risk typologies (mixers, darknet exposure, scams, fraud, ransomware, sanctions evasion risks).
- While MSB businesses prioritize fast onboarding and transaction execution, you must be able to pause, restrict, or challenge scenarios that create unacceptable AML, sanctions, or reputational risks.
- Close collaboration with banking and payment partners, ensuring compliance standards are consistently met.
