Sr. Controller

Position Overview The Senior Controller will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls across a multi-entity environment. This role will play a key leadership position in driving process improvements, consolidations, and financial strategy while supporting a growing organization. This role blends technical accounting expertise, leadership, and FP&A exposure.

Key Responsibilities Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, reporting, and financial close processes Lead consolidations and financial reporting across multiple entities Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements in accordance with GAAP Oversee and support annual audits and ensure audit readiness Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and operational efficiencies Maintain compliance with nonprofit and regulatory reporting requirements Oversee tax-related filings, including Form 990 and other regulatory reporting Leadership Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of accounting leaders, and team members Provide guidance, coaching, and performance management across the team Foster a collaborative, high-performing remote work environment Partner cross-functionally with finance leadership and operational stakeholders Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 8+ years of accounting/finance experience with progressive leadership responsibility Prior experience in nonprofit and/or education sector (required) Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards Demonstrated experience with consolidations, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting Experience leading and managing remote or distributed teams Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Advanced Excel skills Preferred: CPA designation

Experience with ERP implementations or system upgrades Familiarity with school finance or education-related funding models Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
