Description

McCready Law is growing, and our Settlement Department is looking for an experienced settlement professional to help move personal injury cases from settlement through final disbursement.

This posting may be used to consider candidates for either a Settlement Specialist or Senior Settlement Specialist position. The level offered will depend on the candidate’s experience, settlement background, lien resolution knowledge, independence, and ability to manage complex files.

If you are detail‑driven, organized, comfortable with numbers, and know how important settlement accuracy is to both the client and the firm, this may be a great fit. This role is part follow‑up, part problem‑solving, part documentation discipline, and part “let’s get this file across the finish line.

The Settlement Specialist / Senior Settlement Specialist is responsible for supporting and managing post‑settlement personal injury files. This includes lien identification, lien follow up, settlement documentation, communication with clients and third parties, settlement statement review, and disbursement readiness.

Candidates with stronger experience may be considered for the Senior Settlement Specialist level, which includes more complex lien work, advanced negotiation, higher file ownership, attorney strategy support, and serving as a senior resource within the department.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage assigned settlement files from settlement through final disbursement
  • Identify, track, and resolve medical liens, provider balances, subrogation claims, Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, and other reimbursement claims
  • Communicate with clients, attorneys, providers, insurance carriers, and third parties regarding settlement and lien status
  • Request, review, and organize lien documentation, balances, reductions, and supporting records
  • Negotiate lien reductions with providers and third parties based on experience level
  • Prepare and review settlement statements and disbursement documentation for accuracy
  • Coordinate settlement documents for signature, including settlement sheets, releases, hold harmless agreements, office letters, and W-9 forms
  • Monitor outstanding documents, checks, balances, and follow‑up items
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation in the case management system
  • Track overdue, returned, rejected, or reissued settlement checks
  • Review files for completeness before disbursement
  • Escalate complex lien issues, disputed balances, financial discrepancies, or unusual file concerns when needed
  • Support settlement workflow, file accuracy, and department procedures
  • Managing more complex settlement files with minimal oversight
  • Handling advanced lien negotiations and higher‑risk reimbursement issues
  • Working closely with attorneys on difficult lien or settlement strategy issues
  • Reviewing settlement files for financial accuracy and audit readiness
  • Supporting newer team members with workflow questions and best practices
  • Identifying recurring issues and recommending process improvements
Requirements
  • Personal injury experience preferred
  • Prior settlement, lien resolution, case management, or legal support experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, medical liens, and subrogation claims is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Strong follow‑up and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple files, deadlines, and moving parts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong financial accuracy and settlement math skills
  • Ability to communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, providers, and insurance representatives
  • Proficiency with Excel, Outlook, and case management systems
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
Experience Level

Settlement Specialist Typically suited for candidates with 2 to 5 years of personal injury, settlement, lien resolution, or legal support experience. This level focuses on managing standard settlement files, lien follow up, documentation, settlement statements, and disbursement readiness.

Senior Settlement Specialist Typically suited for candidates with 4 to 7 plus years of personal injury experience, including concentrated settlement and lien resolution work. This level includes complex files, advanced lien work, stronger independent judgment, financial review, and senior level support within the department.
