Atlantic FCU is hiring a Director of Loan Operations in South Portland.

Description

Atlantic FCU is seeking a strategic, people-focused Director of Loan Operations to lead and oversee all loan operations functions, including Loan Processing, Underwriting, Loan Servicing, and Member Solutions. This role is critical in ensuring a seamless, compliant, and member-focused lending experience from application through payoff or resolution.

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Director of Loan Operations works closely with Lending, Operations, Compliance, Finance, and IT to align loan operations with Atlantic’s organizational strategy, portfolio objectives, regulatory requirements, and service standards. This position balances strategic planning with hands‑on leadership and accountability for results, performance, and service excellence.

What You’ll Do Strategic Leadership & Operational Oversight
  • Lead and oversee all loan operations functions, including loan processing, underwriting, servicing, and member solutions, ensuring a consistent, high-quality lending experience from application through payoff or resolution.
  • Translate lending and organizational strategy into operational plans, performance expectations, and department goals that support portfolio health and service standards.
  • Provide leadership across loan operations to ensure consistency, efficiency, and strong service standards across underwriting, processing, servicing, and collections.
  • Partner with Lending, Operations, Compliance, Finance, IT, and external vendors to support service excellence, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the VP of Operations on performance metrics, trends, risks, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop, coach, and support managers and teams while fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Promote strong cross-departmental partnerships to enhance the member experience and portfolio outcomes.
  • Support succession planning, cross‑training, and ongoing talent development.
  • Champion a positive, inclusive culture rooted in service excellence and continuous improvement.
Risk Management, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable NCUA, state, and federal regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Partner with Compliance, Audit, and Operations during examinations and audits, and oversee key operational controls.
  • Identify risks, operational challenges, and process improvement opportunities, implementing scalable, data‑driven solutions.
  • Monitor portfolio performance indicators and ensure timely, appropriate operational responses.
Requirements What We’re Looking For Experience
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in lending operations, underwriting, loan servicing, or related financial services roles
  • Credit union or community financial institution experience strongly preferred
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience considered
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and performance management skills
  • Thorough understanding of lending and loan servicing regulations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and process improvement capabilities
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment
  • Proficiency with lending systems, core processing platforms, and Microsoft Office
  • Professional, collaborative, and inclusive work environment
  • Eligibility for hybrid or remote work in accordance with Atlantic’s telecommuting policy
  • Occasional travel to other credit union locations
