What You’ll Do
We’re looking for an Associate Actuary to join our Workplace Benefits Group Disability & Life Pricing team. In this role, you’ll work collaboratively to drive forward pricing and product development efforts related to our suite of Disability & Life products. We're looking for someone who will:
- Become the lead Actuarial resource in developing new pricing methodologies and strategies across our Disability & Life products. This work is not prescribed; the best candidates will be open to creative solutions to pricing and analytic methods.
- Develop as a subject‑matter expert in the pricing mechanics of our Long‑Term Disability (LTD), Short‑Term Disability (STD), and Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) products. Some exposure to the Group Life products over time, as needed.
- Build, maintain, and improve processes relating to evaluating the health of the Disability & Life products, including data creation/validation, actuarial analysis, internal and external communication, financial impacts, and forecasts.
- Provide analysis and support for a variety of potential cross‑team initiatives such as claims management, underwriting, renewal processes, and more.
- Opportunity to direct projects while having indirect leadership on actuarial students, analysts, and interns to build leadership abilities.
- Work collaboratively with Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, and Distribution to deliver on our growth strategy.

Who You Are- Bachelor’s degree and an FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or global equivalent)
- 6+ years actuarial experience
- Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SOA is required
- Self‑motivated with excellent problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively is required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills are required.
- Knowledge of Excel and VBA is required.
- Actuarial modeling, either legacy process or utilizing new technologies
- Skilled in a programming language (SAS, R, Python, or similar)
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non‑Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)$127,000 - $171,000 / year
Time Off ProgramFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work EnvironmentsThis role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC, and Raleigh, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
