Position: Insurance Premium Audit Consultant II - Field Travel (Remote)

Overview

AF Group seeks a Level II Field Premium Auditor to conduct virtual and field audits, primarily for Workers’ Compensation and General Liability policies, within established authority levels. The role involves reviewing accounting and financial records to determine exposure and premium for policyholders’ employees and subcontractors.
Pay range is approximately $71,000 to $119,570, determined by internal equity, skills, experience, location, and market conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Performs virtual and field audits within established authority level.
  • Contacts agents to review audit results prior to invoicing large accounts.
  • Collects all pertinent data and documents needed to calculate policyholder’s premium liability.
  • Interviews policyholders to obtain additional information on premiums (e.g., payroll and personnel records).
  • Performs physical audits on multi‑state accounts when required.
  • Communicates completed audit information with contacts and ensures results are understood.
  • Reviews policy information by referring to Workers’ Compensation manuals, class codes, and rules, and prepares for audit to determine correct operations.
  • Notifies business unit of necessary changes in entities, officers, partners, etc., to ensure proper policy endorsement.
  • Maintains confidentiality of processed information.
  • Works with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrates progressive responsibility and technical knowledge based on experience.
  • Works on complex problems with broad impact.
  • Independently resolves situations.
  • Contributes effectively in cross‑functional teams and may assume a leadership role.
  • Demonstrates proper collaboration in exchanging relevant elements with other disciplines (e.g., claims, underwriting).
  • Develops recommendations to change existing policies or programs.
  • Demonstrates strong conflict management, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Provides assistance with training, development, and mentoring of premium audit staff.
Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Progress toward or completion of industry‑recognized professional designations (e.g., APA, IIA, AIU, CPCU, ARM) is preferred and encouraged.

Experience

Three years of relevant insurance experience and two years of premium audit experience.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (SKA) Required

  • Work effectively in a multi‑functional business unit.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation insurance and occupational classification codes and rules.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately calculate premiums using many variables.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret policy documents, technical, and financial information.
  • Initiate insurance transactions in compliance with all policies, procedures, legal, and ethical guidelines.
  • Perform necessary mathematical computations.
  • Proficiency with computers and company standard software specific to the position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective presentation skills in a variety of settings.
  • Negotiate while establishing personal rapport and maintaining effective client relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Manage multiple priorities, establish workflows, and meet deadlines.
  • Work with minimum supervision.
  • Perform assignments at locations outside the office.
  • Apply relevant local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including multi‑state workers’ disability compensation acts.
  • Assist with training, development, and mentoring of premium audit staff.
  • Analyze and solve practical problems involving a variety of factors.
  • Make competent, independent decisions.
  • Understand and implement procedures and processes.
